TACA in 2007-2008:

• TACA Board of Trustees with the leadership of Chairman Dr. Orhan Kaymakcalan, was able to raise over $70,000 for the building renovation project. We began, with repairing the roof and the heating/air-conditioning units. With the replacement of the entry/door is underway, we will continue renovations with the restrooms, and our kitchen.
• During the respective operation year, TACA also obtained ifs official zoning licensing for the usage of the facilities.
• TACA successfully added 100 funeral plots to its existing cemetery space maintaining its status as the first Turkish organization in the United States to have a cemetary.
• TACA successfully completed another term of the Ataturk School. This school provides Turkish classes for the Turkish-American children living in the Chicagoland area. TACA was able to acquire new desks and school books for these classes.
• TACA continued to offer Adult Turkish classes, and now have Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced classes.
• TACA facilitated its first Couples Trivia game where 7 couples competed in 2008, and the second one recently taking place, making this event an annual one scheduled to occur the second Sunday in February of each year.
• TACA in conjuntion with the Turkish Consulate General completed its 6th annual Turkish Festival in May at the Daley Plaza. This was a 4- day festival in downtown Chicago, showcasing various aspects of Turkish culture. There was Turkish cuisine, Turkish coffee, Maras icecream, Turkish Folklore, Whirling Dervishes and Mehter, Traditional Turkish Music, Turkish Fashion Show, and various Turkish artistic booths.
• To celebrate the National Republic Day of October 29th, TACA had a highly successfull ball with over 250 people in attendance, making this event one of the largest celebrations gathering the Turkish commuity together. TACA brought Ahmet Coskun to provide the live entertainment and also a beautiful tango performance by Chicago tango dancers, Somer Surgit and Agape Pappas!
• Futhermore to herald in the new year, TACA with TADAM had an incredible New Years Eve Ball.
• TACA helped start the Turkish Cultural Music Chorus and Turkish Folk Music Chorus and also bought sound system and electronic piano to further enable the choruses. The choruses held a fundraiser concert which was highly successful. More concerts are planned for 2009.
• TACA had two successful lecture series and is planning to continue with similar lectures in the future.
  1.) A lecture by Ambassador Altay Cengizer discussing "The Alleged Armenian Genocide". TACA also made financial contributions toward Ambassador Cengizer's research in completing his book detailing the events which led to World War I.
  2.) A lecture by Professor Murat Gunes Tezcur discussing "The Role of Secularism in Turkey".
• TACA initiated the beginnings of a Turkish Cooking Class series. The first class was this past October at the home of a Turkish family, and they cooked a full breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.
• TACA started the Public Action Outreach Committee, which is a grass-roots campaign with the purpose of trying to educate Americans about Turkey and Turkish causes.
• As one of the oldest and most successful Turkish organizations, TACA has started to reach and support out other Turkish organizations in the Midwest. TACA has become a role model for these organizations and has tried to help them strengthen themselves as community.
• TACA had a very successful and healthy fundrasier with Raw Food Chef, Mehmet Ak at his restaurant Cousin's IV.
• TACA with TADAM had a very informative Health Fair last October. Flu and pneumonia vaccinations were avaliable; as well as screening for osteoporosis, services to determine blood pressure, hemoglobin analysis, urine analysis, glucose analysis, height, weight, and body mass index calculations, and providing information about various health concerns.
• TACA with Chicago Turks had outstanding bar nights bringing together the Turkish youth in the Chicagoland community.
• TACA started networking events to facilitate information exchange and foster a community feel among Turkish professionals in the same fields. Construction industry, consulting and finance networking events were held in 2008.
• TACA continues to support its soccer team Turkish FC Team.
• For the past 3 years TACA has been offering pilates classes every Sunday morning to all its members.
• TACA 's Youth Folklore group has been dancing for 3 years under the tutelage of Dilek Myzyri , Suha Yaman & Ersin Ozharat The Youth Folklore group has flourished and they have gone on dance across the United States. The Children's Folkore Group has danced at the World Children's Dance at Navy Pier, Chicago Turkish Festival, they have danced for the ATAA Convention at Washington DC , Kansas City, MO as well as Detroit, MI. They continue to grow as a group each year.
• TACA has continued successfully each year with celebrating and promoting all the Turkish holidays: Ramazan Bayrami, Kurban Bayrami, 29 Ekim Cumhuriyet Bayrami, 19 Mayis Ataturk'u Anma ve Genclik Bayrami, 23 Nisan Ulusal Egemenlik ve Cocuk Bayrami aiming to bring together and foster the ties of the Turkish community!
• TACA's annual picnic gathered Turkish Americans for BBQ and games.

We hope to continue with these activities and many more in the year to come!

TACA's long term goals are to eventually reach the abilities to maintain a full-time executive director and staff. We still continue our pursuits of the TACA Building Project; where we are both in the process of updating the current building while also working towards the goal of a feasible space that can cater to growing needs of our community .

As a non-profit organization, all of our activities are volunteer-based with sole aim of bringing people together with an interest in Turkey. TACA gets its power from its members and the generous donations. Financial sustainability is at utmost importance for TACA. Only with your help TACA can keep providing for the Turkish American community. 2007-2008'de TACA:

• TACA mutevelli heyeti, Baskan Dr. Orhan Kaymakcalan liderliginde, bina renovasyon projesi icin $70,000'dan fazla para toplamistir. Bu paranin bir kismiyla catiyi ve isinma/sogutma sistemlerimizi tamir ettirdik. Giris kapisi su siralarda yenilenmektedir;  lavabolar ve mutfak ise bundan sonra yenilenecektir.
• Gectigimiz yil kullandigimiz bina icin resmi ruhsat alinmistir.
• Chicago Turk mezarligini genisletmek icin baslattigimiz calismalarimizla 100 tane yeni mezar yeri alinmistir ve uyelerimize indirimli satislar baslamistir. TACA boylece ABD'de uyelerine boyle bir hizmet veren tek Turk dernegidir.
• Chicago ve cevresindeki cocuklarimiza Turk kulturu ve dilini ogretmeyi hedeflemis olan Ataturk Okulu calismalarina basariyla devam etmektedir. Bu donemde okulumuzda siralar yenilenmis ve de yeni kitaplar alinmistir.
• TACA bir onceki yil basladigi Turkce derslerine (yetiskinler icin) devam etmistir. Su anda uc seviyede derslerimiz devam etmektedir. (baslangic, orta ve ileri derecede)
• 2008 Subat'da ilk kez ciftler bilgi yarismasi duzenlendi ve yedi ciftin katilimiyla uyelerimize yeni, eglenceli bir aktivite sunduk. Yarismanin ikincisi de 2009 Subat'ta duzenlendi, bu yarismayi her yil devam ettirmeyi hedefliyoruz.
• Mayis ayinda 6. Geleneksel Turk Festivali Daley Plaza'da Turkiye Cumhuriyeti Chicago Baskonsoloslugu ile beraber duzenlendi. Bu 4 gunluk festival kulturumuzun cesitli yonlerini tanitmaktadir. Etkinlikler ve katilimcilar arasinda cesitli turk yemekleri, kahve, Maras dondurmasi, folklor, dervisler, mehter takimi, geleneksel turk muzikleri, moda sovu ve pek cok degisik cadirlarda turk el sanatlari yer almaktadir.
• 29 Ekim 2008'de 250'den fazla kisinin katilimiyla Cumhuriyet Bayrami balosu duzenlenmistir. Bu balo TACA uyelerini biraraya getiren en buyuk aktivitelerimizden biridir. Ahmet Coskun muzikleri, Somer Surgit ve Agape Pappas tango danslariyla balomuza renk kattilar.
• TACA ayrica TADAM ile ortaklasa bir yeni yil balosu duzenleyip uyelerine guzel bir yeni yil gecesi alternatifi sunmustur.
• 2008'de TACA bunyesinde Turk Sanat Muzigi ve Turk Halk Muzigi korolari kuruldu. TACA bu aktiviteler icin ses sistemi ve elektronik piyano satin aldi. Kasim ayinda cok basarili bir konser duzenlendi ve benzer konserlerin devam etmesine karar verildi.
• 2008'de iki basarili seminer duzenlendi:
  1. 1. Altay Cengizer'in “sozde ermeni soykirimi” uzerine konusmasi. TACA ayrica Buyukelci Cengizer'in yazmakta oldugu Birinci Dunya Savasi olaylari konulu kitabina maddi yardimda bulundu.
     2. Prof. Murat Gunes Tezcur'un “Turkiye'de laikligin rolu” konulu konusmasi.
• Turk yemekleri yapmayi ogrenmek isteyenler icin dersler duzenlenmesine karar verildi. Gonullu uyelerimizin zaman ve bilgilerini evlerinde kucuk gruplarla paylasacagi bu derslerini ilki Ekim ayinda duzenlendi.
• “Public Action Outreach Committee” kuruldu. Bu kurulun amaci Turkleri ve Turkiye'yi ilgilendiren konularda halkimizi bilgilendirmek ve harekete gecirmektir.
• ABD'deki en eski ve basarili Turk derneklerinden olan TACA, diger Turk derneklerine yardim ve ornek teskil etmeye devam etmektedir. Ozellikle Ortabati'daki diger derneklerle yakin iliskiler devam ettirilmekte ve yenileri gelistirilmektedir.
• Cousin's IV'de, TACA'nin muhtelif faaliyetleri icin finansal kaynak saglamak amaciyla, sef Mehmet Ak'in destegiyle basarili bir aktivite duzenlenmistir.
• Ekim ayinda TADAM ile beraber bir Saglik Fuari duzenlendi. Grip ve zaturre asilari, kemik erimesi kontrolu, tansiyon olcumu, hemoglobin analizi, ure analizi, glukoz analizi, boy/kilo/BMI olcumleri yapildi ve pek cok saglik sorulari cevaplandirildi.
• Chicago Turks grubu ile beraber genclerimizi bir araya getiren basarili sosyal akitivetler duzenlendi.
• Ayrica profesyonel bilgi alisverisinde bulunulmasi ve ayni alanda calisan Turklerin birbirini tanimasi ve desteklemesi amaciyla insaat, danismanlik ve finans sektorlerinde calisanlar icin aktiviteler duzenlendi. Bu aktiviteler Mart ayindan itibaren devam edecektir.
• TACA ayrica Turkish FC futbol takimimizi desteklemeye devam etmektedir.
• Son uc yildir, TACA binasinda Pazar sabahlari uyelerimize pilates dersleri ucretsiz olarak sunulmaktadir.
• Genc folklor grubumuz, ogretmenlerimiz Dilek Myzyri , Suha Yaman ve Ersin Ozharat ile son uc yildir basariyla devam etmektedir. Gectigimiz yil Chicago icinde ve disinda, Dunya Cocuklar gununde Navy Pier'da, ATAA Toplantisinda Washington, DC'de, Kansas City ve Detroit'te dans gosterileri yaptilar.
• Her yil oldugu gibi gecen yil da TACA olarak butun resmi ve dini bayramlarimizi uyelerimiz ve dostlarimizla beraber kutladik.
• Geleneksel piknigimiz Eylul basinda duzenlendi.

TACA hic bir kar amaci olmayan, sadece Turkleri ve Turkiye'yle ilgilenenleri bir araya getirmeyi hedef almis; tamamen gonullu hizmetlerle yuruyen bir kurulustur. Ana hedefimiz sizlere daha cok ve daha kaliteli hizmet sunabilmek. Bunun icin uzun vadede tam zamanli bir yonetici/sekreter edinmeyi ve artan ihtiyaclarimiza cevap verebilecek bir binaya tasinmayi planlamaktayiz.

TACA butun gucunu sizin desteginizden ve bagislarinizdan almaktadir. TACA ancak sizin desteginizle ayakta kalacak ve hizmetlerine devam edebilecektir. Gectigimiz yil TACA'ya zamaniyla, enerjisiyle ve maddi olarak destek veren butun uyelerimize ve dostlarimiza tesekkur ederiz.
