August 30th Victory Day Celebration Dinner At TACA
Dear Members and the Turkish Community,
Every nation has a defining moment in their history, which solidifies their existence and national conscious. Even though so many important wars were fought and won throughout Turkish history, it can easily be said that if there is a country of Turkey today, we owe it to our Independence War fought against the occupying Allied Forces during 1919-1922, and specifically to our great offensive and victory on August 30th 1922 at its final battle in Dumlupinar, which is also known as the Battle of the Commander-in-Chief.
This victory led to the Armistice of Mudanya in October 1922, which expelled all occupying forces (British, French, Italian and Greek) from Turkey and returned all the lost territory in Anatolia and Eastern Thrace back to us. Later in July 1923 the Lausanne Treaty was signed and Turkey was recognized as an independent and sovereign state by the international community, and this paved the way to the declaration of Republic of Turkey in 1923.
August 30th victory is our defining moment. Hence, we are celebrating it every year since 1924. In order to re-iterate the importance of this date and remember our fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and to save our country.
We are organizing an August 30th Victory Day Celebration dinner at our TACA Building on Saturday, on August 26th at 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm.
I hope see you at TACA on August 26th and celebrate this historic day of our nation together. I encourage you to bring your children so they can be involved in this historically important day.
